A tsunami 131 feet (40 m) high, radiating outward at a speed reportedly of over 311 mph (500 kph), destroyed coastal towns and villages. The explosion was heard from Sri Lanka to Perth, Australia, and the resulting waves led to a noticeable surge in the English Channel. It was the greatest volume of sound recorded in human history.
